Hi friends!
I don't know about you but I'm ready for some cooler weather! WAIT A MINUTE, did I just type that....I HATE winter! I don't like being cold, I don't like having to lug a coat around, I don't like getting into a frosty bed and don't like getting out of it once it is toasty warm. I prefer summer and warmer temps so this is highly unusual for me....guess I'm just ready for my first fall/winter season Southern style. I'm loving the new colorful outfits the leaves have changed into, and today as I drove down Poplar and passed under this massive tree it showered me with some of its beautiful foliage.....ah, it's the little things that make me happy!
I've been busy making some cookies today for the upcoming season. I focused on Halloween and Fall cookies today, maybe next week I'll play around with some Christmas cookies. If you would like some cookies for the holidays or any occasion let me know as soon as possible.
Here are the pics, Enjoy!!

Toy Story Cupcakes
As promised, here are pictures of the Toy Story cupcakes I did for Ethan's 3rd birthday party. Four dozen vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream.
The decorations were supplied by Ethan's mom. Except for these, I made these myself....
The cookies, bagged, bowed and ready to go....
Looks like Woody, Buzz and the gang are ready to party with Ethan and his friends!

"To infinity and beyond!!"
Hi all! What's new with you? I've been baking......shocking I know!!
Anyway, last week I asked you all to help me name my new cheesecake recipe with the winner receiving a said named cheesecake. I am happy to announce that the winner is........Penny Limoli!!! YAY!! The name of the cheesecake is Chocolate Contrabanana!!! I entered the cake (a chocolate banana nut cheesecake) in a contest so keep your fingers crossed!!! If my recipe is chosen then I get to go to New York for the final round and a chance at the grand prize.
This week in addition to making homemade soups and stews and chili from scratch, I've been doing more baking......Stop It!! I made some Ooey Gooey Butter Cookies...YUM!! I also finished the Toy Story cookies for a little guy that turned 3 this week (here are the pictures). I'll be making 4 dozen cupcakes for his party on Saturday, I will post pics when they are complete.
Well, I'm off to clean up the kitchen, my favorite part of baking, then I have to get ready for dinner tonite with friends.
Have a great week!!

In search of a name
I need help naming my new cheesecake recipe! Can you help? It is a banana cheesecake filled with chunks of banana and walnuts on a chocolate cookie crust sprinkled with dark chocolate chunks. I don't want to go with a descriptive name like Banana Walnut Cheesecake I prefer to go with something a little quirky like Chunky Monkey, only I can't use this name because it is registered by Ben & Jerry's. Any suggestions??

Update: Chocolate Hi-Hat Cupcakes
Hello friends! After my post yesterday about the "epic failure" cupcakes I made, I went online to research what I could have done wrong. It just wasn't sitting well with me that using buttermilk in the place of whole milk could have made that much of a difference because I do it all the time! Turns out it wasn't me that messed up after all. What happened is I found a Martha Stewart video online where she and some New York bakery owner were making his fabulous cupcakes on the show. I followed along and wrote down all the ingredients and measurements that they said on camera. Turns out that the recipe on the show (on camera) was flawed....yeah, Martha and her guest screwed up! They were so busy chit-chattin' that they forgot to mention the addition of a key ingredient AND goofed on the amount of another key ingredient. The bakery guy emphasized on-air to add two tablespoons of baking powder when most recipes call for one tablespoon or less. You would think this guy would know what he was doing. Considered writing Martha a letter and asking for reimbursement of my expenses but that will get me nowhere. Anyhow, I found the correct recipe and made them again this morning and they came out wonderful, so moist and tasty!
Side note: Oh, and I didn't use whole milk as "bakery guy" insisted, I used soy milk instead because I was out of buttermilk and didn't want to run to the store.
Second update. The hi-hat cupcakes I made yesterday came out looking beautiful however, when I ate one last night I found the meringue frosting under the chocolate to be WAY to grainy. It tasted good but was too sweet and I felt like I was chewing sand, so those adorable little guys went to the trash.
Side note: The meringue frosting was another recipe I got from Martha....seeing a pattern here?
Anyway, I found another meringue recipe, Italian meringue, it is SO smooth and not too sweet. Leave it to the Italians, ehh!
So, my lesson learned is that although Martha is great she is not ALL that and a bag of Cheetos!!

Chocolate Hi-Hat cupcakes!!
Tried a new recipe today.....epic fail!! I normally use buttermilk instead of milk in my recipes (it makes a moister cake) but this particular recipe specifically called for "whole milk" but I didn't listen and the cupcakes were a complete mess, had to throw away the entire thing. Ah well, lesson learned!! I'm definately going to try this recipe again but will be sure to use "whole milk" next time. ;)
My other batch of cupcakes though, turned out excellent!!!! I especially adore the "mini" hi-hat cupcakes they are so adorable!
and here is the Red Velvet I made earlier this week.
Well, this is short and sweet, because I've got to get back into the kitchen and finish icing my cupcakes, start dinner, make my dish for bible study tonite and clean-up the mess which is my favorite part of baking.......NOT!!!!!
If you would like to place an order email me at iseeyoucupcake@yahoo.com
Blog ya later!!

Channeling Julia...NOT so much!
Hellloooo! Didn't get as much accomplished this week as I had hoped to, but life goes on! I did however, test drive a new recipe today that I have been wanting to try and found it was a complete fail SO....see ya later, BUH-BYE!! I have so many other ideas though, never fear! More kick-ass cake ideas to come!!!
In other news.......a friend (Thank you, Toni) contacted me earlier this week to tell me about a cake decorating contest on WeTV.com . She urged me to enter and even though I don't feel I have any chance to win, I entered anyway, I figure what can it hurt. I'd probably do better selling ice cubes in hell ,than I would winning this contest, but after I quit laughing...I thought, "WTH, what can I loose!", so I entered. I don't stand a chance against some of my VERY talented peers such as Lynn's Lavish Layers (Triple L) in Las Vegas or Sherri Eisenreich-Urcavich in Memphis, but I'm giving it a whirl.
So check it out, WeTV.com, and vote for YOUR favorite!
Hugs and kisses,
Monica

Jose Cuervo you are a friend of mine...
My Bronco's didn't win today but they looked good and gave it a good fight. They are playing Tennessee on October 3rd (my birthday weekend) so I'm hoping for a win that day but I must say that the Titans are looking really good which has me a little worried.
I've been experimenting in the kitchen again this week and made some vegan cupcakes and some really cute cake pops. The cupcakes turned out VERY well and got great reviews.
My personal favorite were the Margarita cupcakes, I used a full shot of Jose Cuervo to make these awesome little cakes.
The other cupcakes I made were Root Beer Float............SOOO good and I'm not a big fan of root beer. I'm going to have to make a batch of these for my dad, he loves root beer!
I had no idea that vegan cupcakes could taste so good and be so moist, they are definitely tasty!!! Now, vegan cupcakes are not necessarily better for you, they are NOT lower in fat or sugar or calories so don't be fooled thinking that you can eat more since they are vegetarian (a big misconception). If you have never had a vegan cupcake you should really give one a try.
The cupcake pops....this is the first time I've ever made these and for the most part I'm really pleased with the way they turned out however, next time I make these I'm going to tweak the process slightly to make them better. Here are pics of the ones I did make.

I’m going to make more this week and see what other designs I can come up with....my mind is always thinking/working trying to come up with new ideas.
Well, I’m off to make dinner so have a great week!

I see you cupcake - a short and sweet poem
I see you cupcake by Monica Harris
I see you cupcake
staring at me
sitting on your pedestal
dressed for the party
Your sweet creamy frosting
hiding what is underneath
delicious spongy goodness
is what's in store for me
I can't help but wonder
what secret you hold inside
is it creamy gooey filling
or just plain cake this time
I hear you cupcake
calling out my name
I see you cupcake
why must we play this game

sitting on your pedestal
dressed for the party

Welcome to my blog!
Welcome to my blog!
This blog is part journal, part column and part "Hey, this is what I'm up to lately". It's a place where I can post my thoughts, ideas, latest projects, and trials and tribulations on becoming a better Christian, wife, mother, daughter and friend; and how I'm trying to fullfill my dream to be a cupcake queen and open up my own bakery. I welcome your thoughts, comments, criticisms, praises or whatever you would like to post I just ask that you be honest. I will try to keep things interesting!
I don't claim to be a writer, my best/favorite subject in school was math not grammar, so go easy on my writing and grammar skills (or lack thereof). This blog is just about me being me while trying to become a better me!
Hugs,
Monica
